Upon arrival at the international airport of Quito transfer from the airport to the hotel.

Quito is known for its treasures of Colonial churches, monasteries, paintings, sculptures and carvings and the magnificent blend of Spanish, Flemish and Moorish architecture. For that reason, in 1978 the city was declared by UNESCO “Patrimony of Mankind”. Altogether the city has to offer 86 churches and monasteries of the 16th and 17th century. Due to its beautiful churches and monasteries, Quito is called and known as the “Convent of America”. This attractive city is located only 22km away from the “Middle of the World”, the Equatorial Line.

Day 02 Sunday                                                                                   Quito / Approx. 66 km

Today you will enjoy a sightseeing-tour of the city of Quito which leads you through the historical centre of Quito for a walk through the culturally diverse history of this city.

We will pass the church of La Compañía, which has the most ornate and richly sculptured façade and interior, the Independence Square with the Government Palace and the San Francisco Church including a visit.

Afterwards visit of the Equatorial Line Monument called “Middle of the World” where you get a truly rare experience to stand in both, the Northern and Southern Hemispheres simultaneously. The Equatorial Monument marks the spot where an 18th century French scientific expedition established the exact position of the Equator. The area has been built as a typical colonial town, with restaurants, gift shops and Post Office with philatelic sales. Visit the monument and Ethnographical Museum, which shows the history of the Indian cultures of Ecuador.

Day 03 – Monday                                                                Quito – Otavalo / Approx. 98 km

  • Visit the handicraft market in Otavalo

In the morning, drive from Quito to Otavalo and then visit a school project in Peguche. This is a center for local children, which offers kinder garden and elementary school.

During a visit to the school project you will get an insight into the different activities of the “Casa de Niño”. Get an impression of the Ecuadorian education and get in contact with the children.

** Note: There are no children at the school during the summer holidays on July, August and September. Neither during weekends nor public holidays. On that period, only the building can be visited.

We also will discover the worldwide known Indian handcrafts market Otavalo. The town consists of rather functional buildings with the Plaza de los Ponchos as the centre. The local Indians have achieved economic prosperity as a result of their skill in weaving a tremendous variety of designs in belts, tapestries, ponchos and other clothing items. Here you will enjoy the unique variety of handicrafts and textiles that offer this giant colourful market and certainly, you will be able to carry some new souvenirs with you.

Day 04 – Tuesday                                            Otavalo – Papallacta / Approx. 134 km

Laguna Cuicocha is a crater lake located at approximately 3,000m (9,842ft.) above sea level. Appreciate the stunning views, unique vegetation, and the volcanic islands surrounded by totora reeds. Take a boat ride on the lake and get closer to an island to observe its unique flora and fauna. Afterwards, continue your tour towards Cotacachi, Ecuador’s leatherwork center. Stroll around the small streets and admire the artisan shops filled with handmade leather objects.

From Otavalo, drive to the small Andean village of Papallacta to relax in the hot spring and overnight.

The Papallacta hot springs are considered the cleanest and most beautiful hot springs in Ecuador. Several hotels have pools that are filled with warm thermal water from the mountains. Soak in these pools as you relax and admire the stunning landscapes the Andes have to offer.

After breakfast you will drive to “Cotopaxi National Park”. The highland zone, protected since 1975, belongs with its 33.000 ha wide area to one of the most attractive ecological reserves of the country. On a walk near the shallow lake „Laguna de Limpiopungo” at an altitude of almost 4.000 m, you will have the chance to learn about the typical vegetation of the so-called “Páramo” and will gaze in wonder at the beautiful view of Cotopaxi (5897m) in the background. To take a picture here makes photographers’ hearts beat faster!

Today you will also visit a beautiful flower plantation where the friendly staff will explain you everything about their work. The plantation shows a great variety of flowers.

Continue about 14 km on to Quilotoa, the famous volcanic lake with beautiful views. In the late afternoon you will continue on to Riobamba, which is the capital of the province of Chimborazo, where a great number of indigenous communities live. Close to Chimborazo, the highest mountain of Ecuador, you will spend the night in one of the atmospheric Hosterías this region offers.

Day 07 – Friday                                                        Riobamba – Cuenca / Approx. 274 km

After an early breakfast you will be taken to the train-station in Alausí to board the train for the famous Devil’s Nose ride.

Afterwards you will start the approximately 2 hours’ drive to the City of Cuenca.

On your way you will stop at the Inca ruin site of Ingapirca, the most important monument of pre-Spanish culture in Ecuador. The ruins are located on a grass-covered hill at an altitude of about 3.100 m. On a walk through the former place where the Incas lived and hold their ceremonies, you will learn about their beliefs and rituals as well as about the way they constructed this ordination place, which has the shape of a puma.

After arriving in Cuenca, you will check in at your hotel.

After breakfast, you will visit the sights of Cuenca, the third largest city of Ecuador. In Cuenca, founded in 1557 on an Inca settlement valley, you still breathe the colonial air of Ecuadorian history. For most Ecuadorian inhabitants – and also for travellers – this centre of art, ceramic, panama hats as well as products of silver and gold is the most beautiful city in Ecuador. Due to the special atmosphere and early 19th century architecture Cuenca was declared “Cultural Patrimony

of Mankind” in November 1999. During the city tour you will see the historical buildings, located along the Tomebamba River, the “Todos los Santos” ruins, the flowers market and the main square with the old and new Cathedral. Furthermore, you will be led to a Panama hat factory.

The afternoon will be at leisure. You may walk around the narrow cobble stoned streets with the whitewashed houses and noble façades to explore the beauty of this town on your own.

This day we will travel on to Ecuador’s largest city Guayaquil, which is the industrial and commercial centre of the country. It lies on the western banks of the Río Guayas, about 56 km from its outflow into the Gulf of Guayaquil. Towards the coastal area the road loses height and the land is more intensively farmed. The Guayas lowlands are characterized by mangroves and ever-increasing banana plantations.

En route visit of a cacao project. During a guided tour through the cacao plantations visitors can learn everything about the cultivation of the cacao fruit, the process of harvesting and the cacao bean treatment. The Ecuadorian cacao is famous and popular for its very high quality.

Upon arrival in Guayaquil short sightseeing tour of the city.

General Conditions


for land program without Galapagos.

  1. Departure is guaranteed with a minimum of 02 participants. If this number of persons (2) is not achieved 60 days prior to departure date, tour will be cancelled. Please note that in this case all monies paid will be returned including deposit.
  2. The transfers on arrival and departure day are included in the roundtrip rate from 02 persons onwards; in the case of 01 passenger arrival /departs separately, surcharges for extra transfers will apply.
  3. Group size will be a max of 12 which will be for most of the tours, transfers and excursions for Seat-In-Service, which includes local English-speaking guides (changing in each area). There can be exceptions and these will be clearly stated below and will be known as non-exclusive services and are called, Regular Seat–in–Basis. This is where we will join with other passengers just for the services specified and our group size for these tours can be more than 12:

Only the train ride on day 7 is shared with other passengers.

Transfers and excursions are provided together for passengers of both hotel categories: standard and superior.

  1. The great advantage of all these programs called, ‘Seat on Coach ‘, is that they will operate between 2 and 12 passengers. They are guaranteed departures and the group will be together for the duration of the program. The maximum size of 12 is small and you can be sure to enjoy all the tours and services provided on this basis. All the tours will be with local English-speaking guides and change according to the region you are visiting. After the tour you will have your own free time, you can mix within the group or just be on your own. There is no over-all Tour Leader for the group, so your free time is yours.
  2. Cancellation Policy:
  • From 59 until 31 days prior departure maximum 50% cancellation fee
  • From 30 until 20 days prior departure maximum 80% cancellation fee.
  • From 19 until 0 days prior departure there will be 100% cancellation fee.

Cancellation fees for flights are subject to separate cancellation conditions depending on the Airline. For some airline’s cancellation fees will apply already 60 days before arrival.

  1. TRAVEL PERU is not responsible for any belongings of the passengers carried during any services rendered by TRAVEL PERU, such as transfers or tours.
  2. In case of early transfers breakfast at the hotel cannot be guaranteed. If a dinner is included in the program it cannot be guaranteed in case of unforeseen late arrivals.
  3. The mentioned kilometers do not include the distances covered by airplane, boat or on trekking excursions.
  4. Travel Peru holds an allotment for the required internal flights and can book/reserve all flights. If you require Travel Peru to book/reserve your flights please confirm and we will invoice you directly for these services. Tickets will be given to you at destination. If you wish to book directly your flights, Travel Peru will confirm the flights that you will need. With this we can try to ensure that the whole group will travel together on the same flights to avoid extra transfer costs. Regarding the Galápagos extension, TRAVEL PERU will confirm cost of Galapagos flights and upon your approval book the flights GYE/GPS/UIO and invoice you directly, these tickets will be given to you at destination.
  5. Our prices include hotels, transfers, tours seat in coach/service and regular seat on the basis specified in point no 3, taxes, entrance fees. Meals are included as and when mentioned in our program. Unless mention lunch and dinner does not include drinks. (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner).
